If you are wondering what everyone will be wearing for the colder months, we have you covered with the hottest trends for the coldest months so that you won’t be left out in the cold with your fashion choices this winter.

Being comfy is a big trend at the moment and it doesn’t look like it is going to go away any time soon. Plus, the 1990s are making a comeback and sneakers were all the rage back then. We are not talking about having the odd pair of sneakers lying about when you are having an off day. They should be considered an accessory and your outfit might end up being worked around whatever style of shoe you are working with. And there are so many styles to choose from, you will be spoilt for choice.

Baggy jeans

After living in comfy clothes all through the pandemic, no one is in a rush to get back into their skinny jeans any time soon. The only way to wear your jeans at the moment is with a loose waistband and baggy legs. The jean style could be anything from baggy skater jeans to stealing your man’s jeans. Whatever you decide on, make sure they are loose and you are free to move in them. With this level of comfort, we cannot see skinny jeans coming back into fashion anytime soon.

Smart leisurewear

Show of hands, who worked through the pandemic at home in their pyjamas? Yep, plenty of people did. It’s not surprising that smart leisure wear is a thing right now. If you are not sure what this is, think soft knitted pyjamas that look so good, you could wear them out to the shop and no one would bat an eyelid at you. They are a hybrid between the old ways and the new ways. They are the uniform of the working crowd as they have a sophisticated look with a comfortable feel.

Waterproof boots

The winter months are making sure that the weather is getting wetter in most places, so if you do have to leave the house, you need to make sure that you are wearing the right clothes. Nobody is interested in getting their feet wet anymore so waterproof boots are in. Even just ankle-grazing rubber boots are having a moment as a great alternative to carrying a huge set of wellington boots around. Booties that can take on the water have no place outside the house but can still be worn inside for some extra comfort.

Chunky knits

This one should not come as a surprise as chunky knits seem to come back into fashion every year. However, there is a bit of a difference this year because the focus is on homemade. During the pandemic, a lot of people taught themselves how to knit and crochet. Well, now they can make their own clothes and chunky knits is one of their favourite pastimes. If you can knit or crochet, start creating those knitted wonders now before the weather gets really cold. You could even knit yourself a chunky blanket.

Oversized coats

This is another one of the people who have to leave the house from time to time. Oversized coats are the item of choice to help keep the cold out. There is no one style that you should go for because it only matters if it is oversized. Think of large puffer jackets or long trench coats. The idea is to wrap you from head to toe in something comfy when you go outside. These coats have more of a power vibe going on with them as they look great with some shoulder pads and thick belts.

Wide brim hats

We are all over the wide brim hat trend that started in the summer and hasn’t disappeared yet. It has just adapted for the colder weather. Think of woollen fedoras and baker boy hats with peaks. If it can keep your head warm and the sun out of your eyes, it should be joining your wardrobe. Don’t be afraid to experiment with some different styles as there are plenty out there to choose from.

Lacy underwear

Sexy underwear is making a comeback and we are loving it! Designers are finally getting the balance between function and design in the right direction. Now we can wear something sexy that doesn’t compromise on comfort. Don’t get us wrong, there is still some work to be done by some brands but a lot of them are heading in the right direction. Even if it isn’t lacy, it is still getting a sleeker cut that looks good but is also comfortable.

Faux fur

We can’t say that there are many people out there who would admit to wearing real fur these days. Faux fur is something else entirely. The terrible thing about faux fur is that it looks so good these days, people think it is real! Always check the labels when you are buying stuff as you never know. However, as a general rule, faux fur is a fraction of the price of real fur. The best way to wear your faux fur is as an oversized coat. Not only will you look stylish, but you will also be really warm under all of that fuzz.

We know we mentioned leisure suits earlier but tracksuits are something else entirely. The 1990s was a time when the tracksuit ruled supreme and perfection was reached with the velour Juicy Couture tracksuit. Not only was this glamorous to wear all year round, but it was also incredibly comfortable too. Its time has come again and it is making a huge comeback. The only question remains, will you go with hot pink or black?

Who else is fed up with their handbag weighing them down on one side? Plenty of people are, that’s who. Now, everyone is making the switch to fancy backpacks. Not only are they easier to carry around all day, but they can also come in a variety of styles and sizes. This does not mean that you need to carry a school or sports backpack, you can use any bag, including more grown-up faux leather handbags.

The colder weather means that we all need a bit of extra warmth around us. Tights have been a pain for many people for many years. But now, there are plenty of designs that are comfortable and will last longer than a day. Of course, woollen tights are definitely a good choice for the winter, especially if you live somewhere that is really cold. There are a lot of new tight companies out there that have cracked the tight code and are making names for themselves with their new designs.

The final item on our list is the humble hoodie. Hoodies are comfortable but have not really been considered a must-have fashion accessory. Times are changing where the hoodie is in. The best way to wear them is at least two sizes too big and teamed up with some baggy jeans for extra comfort. The amazing thing about hoodies at the moment is that nearly every brand is creating their own line of hoodies so you don’t have to get one from a company that you hate, there are plenty to choose from!

How to Get Stylish & Sustainable At The Same Time

Creating a stylish look helps you to feel confident and express your character. The fashion industry isn’t always so eco-friendly, but these ideas can help you to stay both stylish and sustainable.

1 . Mindful shopping

If you want to stay both stylish and sustainable you’ll need to adopt mindful shopping habits. What exactly are mindful shopping habits? Essentially, mindful shopping is about thinking super carefully about the items you buy. When you’re about to purchase a new fashion item these mindful questions may help you:

Do I already have an item that’s really similar?

If the answer is yes, you might want to keep on shopping.

Is this an item that I love?

Buying items for the sake of it isn’t very mindful or sustainable. Save your money for something unique that you adore!

Is this item worth the money?

Avoid items that you feel are overpriced, don’t settle and keep looking for better options!

2 . Clear out first

Before you buy new things you should clear out the items that you no longer wear. There are lots of ways that you can get rid of old clothing, and create less waste. If you’d like to earn back some of the money you can use second-hand apps to sell your things. Perhaps you’re feeling charitable? Then why not donate these items to a charity or thrift store?

When you’re having a clear out you might even find old items that you forgot all about. Going through your items is a great way to revamp your wardrobe, using old looks to create new ones.

3. Quality all the way

Becoming a sustainable shopper is about buying quality items, from your clothes to your shoes. There are plenty of fast fashion brands out there, offering catwalk looks at incredibly cheap prices. The problem is, these items tend to get worn out and broken easily, resulting in lots of waste. It’s better to pay more for items that you can get lots of wear out of. If you’re looking for a pair of shoes, these Mens Two Tone Tweed & Leather Lace up Brogues are great quality, at a great price.

4. Pick the right brands

If you want to be eco-friendly and stylish you’ll need to choose the right brands. Not all brands are earth-kind which is why it pays to do your research. Before you part with your cash ensure that the company uses ethical practices and eco-friendly fabrics. To support your research, search for brands using the ‘Good On You’ tool.

5. Hit the vintage stores

Vintage stores are an amazing place to find beautiful fashion items at great prices. Since vintage stores stock second-hand items you’ll be going green and protecting the planet. When you’re shopping in vintage stores make sure that you try everything on. Sometimes vintage items can have different size schemes, (you won’t want to end up with clothes that don’t fit properly)!

Using these easy ideas you’ll soon get stylish while keeping things sustainable. Luckily there are so many brands today that follow eco-friendly practices. Purchasing items from these brands means you’ll be supporting the sustainable fashion movement.

Help Me Choose My Next Pair of Kicks | Nike Air Max 270

I’ve been a lover of trainers since as far back as I can remember, although I wouldn’t call myself a sneaker head. Growing up I went from the fun and exciting light up LA Gear, to cool AF British Knights, to minimal Reebok Classics, to the full family of Nike Air Max trainers.

While my love for trainers hasn’t changed, their status in the fashion world has definitely gone up a notch or two. The Athleisure trend lead to SportLuxe and now almost every high end fashion house has a collection of trainers. Meaning every trendsetter now has a serious collection of sneakers that are a major staple in chic outfits, not just for the commute.

While my style is quite minimal and paired back, I sometimes like to add a statement piece to my look. That could be outerwear, accessories, or footwear. With that said, I have a new pair of kicks on my radar; I just need to decide which colour way I want, do I want to go neutral or bold?

I love the retro influence of the Nike Air Max 270. It’s not a regular Air Max model; they were made specifically for the street. Inspired by two earlier Air Max models, the Air Max 180 (released in 1991, the first model in the line where the Air unit made direct contact with the ground) and the Air Max 93 (a running shoe whose unit curved around the entire back part of the sole) – both of which I have previously owned.

The collection has so many options to choose from, whether they have one colour overall or more colours with a contrasting bubble; they are an instant statement piece. This is due to the different textures on each model – the high shine of the large air bubble, the flat matte tone of the Nike swoosh, and the fabric of the upper of the shoe.

I love the neutral tones of the React Women’s shoe in Gold:

The statement pop of orange in the Men’s React shoe in Cream:

The coolness of the React Women’s shoe in Green:

the minimal vibe of the React Mid-Century Women’s shoe in Cream:

and the Special Edition Shoe in black:

All would go perfectly with almost every item in my wardrobe, but which ones do you think I should go for?

This year went by like a flash!  Honestly, I can’t believe how quick it’s gone; but it’s been absolutely fantastic!  I’ve had several new beginnings; new hair, new job, new friendships.

I cut my hair at the beginning of the year.  When I was in Jamaica at the end of 2017, I decided point blank, that I’d had enough of my hair – I just didn’t have the patience for it anymore – curly or straight.  If I had my scissors with me, I’d have cut it there and then.

I did it gradually, starting with a bob in January, but only because I wanted to enjoy each stage before I got rid of it all. By April I was bald!

Now, I know this sounds super cliché but cutting the hair, made me cut the crap.  It was such a positive change for me, for more reasons than one.

It’s crazy but, removing the question “what should I do with my hair?”, somehow made it easier to make other decisions; easier to get rid of stuff; easier to be more carefree.

“Say it with me son, J.O.B.”

Craig’s Dad

I started a new job in the spring; I was completely out of my comfort zone, and some of it was incredibly challenging.  I couldn’t run away from the challenges, I had to tackle them head on, as well as make sure that I did them well.

I’m so grateful for the challenge; it really stretched me as a person, as well as adding another string to my career bow. And I made a great friend during the process.

DJ Sweetz

My brother turned 21 in May; he wanted a house party, and me to DJ.  Which of course, I did…. the next day I was offered a radio show!

I hmm’d and ahh’d at first, but then I decided I was up for the challenge. I bought some new equipment, did a couple of demos, and the Pick ‘N’ Mix show was born.

Although DJing came quite naturally to me, having a radio show definitely took some getting used to. But now it’s second nature, and I love it!

I had some great trips with some great people:

January – Paris with India

July – Paris with India again

July – Rotterdam with my honey, my cousin, her partner, and some friends

September – New York solo, for my birthday

November – Gran Canaria with Lee Lee

I also got to see Beyoncé and Jay-Z on their OTR II tour, AND Lauryn Hill on her 20th Anniversary of Miseducation… tour.

I knew that I wanted this year to be different, I knew that I wanted it to be better, and it well and truly was. I have no complaints, no regrets – ever! As Chance the Rapper says in ‘Best Life’, “turned all my L’s into lessons”. It’s the way forward trust me.

I will continue to live my best life in 2019, and I hope you do too!
