Jason Wu opened his SS13 show with black leather and lace, I love when a designer does black for Spring/Summer but these particular pieces seemed a bit much. Some of the pieces like the leather dress and the A-line skirt with lace insert I would love for a pre-fall collection or maybe Autumn/Winter. He followed the black with some monochrome and nude pieces that were a little more ‘believable’. Leather harnesses were worn over lace shirts and dresses, heels came down the runway with studded ankle straps. Wu was inspired by famed fashion photographer Helmut Newton which brought out his more provocative side. Peplums were featured on dresses, skirts, and trousers; the hair, make up and cinched in waists added a hint of a femme fetale kinda vibe along with the vanity cases in black leather and white with leopard print sides. I’ll take a couple of the leather and lace shirts, the long sleeve mesh top, and a pair of the skinny pants sans peplum.
