For her AW14 collection Charlie May took inspiration from textures within the landscape of Dartmoor in Devon; the rugged windswept environment (which ironically was happening to us outside as we waited to go into the show) is reflected in the use of pony hair and Mongolian furs. The colour palette was a strong mix of black, navy, winter white and soft cornflour blues.
This season Charlie focussed on creating a new silhouette taking the best bits of the oversized look; creating an elegant form with exaggerated cuffs, oversized roll necks and wide leg trousers, juxtaposed by androgynous trainers and school boy beaver felt hats in collaboration with New York milliner Gigi Burris.
Favourite looks included a knitted dress with exaggerated ribbed cuffs, a pony hair shift dress, and of course the finale piece – the leather coat with Mongolian fur collar and cuffs.
Make up (Thom Walker) was kept very clean in keeping with Charlie May’s minimal look; while hair (Mari Ohashi) was swept in a low ponytail with a front side sweep and a messy loop behind the ear.
