ALSI POLAT SS15

The inspiration behind Asli Polat SS15 collection was a new direction of sports-luxe; soft tailoring with athleticism, technical fabrics and streamlined silhouettes.  The debut collection featured luxury simplicity and clean lines converging to rework ‘old gym class’ relics, such as the classic bomber or staple sweatshirt. PETER PILOTTO SS15

Peter Pilotto and Christopher de Vos graduated from print to craft for their SS15 collection, and we’re not quite sure how we feel about it.  One of the things this brand is famous for it it’s eye catching “love at first sight” prints; the Peter Pilotto SS15 collection features cyber florals with coils and fans of guipure lace, technical macrame, and custom dandelion jacquards with sparkling tinsel.

There was a lot of embellishment and appliqué on the runway; iridescent organza, silk leaves and windowpane checks floated over the skin, whilst grids of florals blossom on black denim.  The silhouette moved between a trim bodice, to ultra slim trousers to planed shifts, some with airy volumes explored as a handkerchief hem and the neat folds of an A-line skirt.

Some of the pieces we adored, such as the tiered jackets both long sleeved and sleeveless; the tattoo like pencil skirt with asymmetric spilt; an the sandals, give us ALL of the sandals! Whilst other pieces, not so much…maybe it’s a grower.

What are your thoughts on the collection?

FD LOVES: PUNK-A-RAMA FROM CAMBRIDGE SATCHEL

Punk-A-Rama2

The Cambridge Satchel Company have launched a new collection for us animal print lovers; the Punk-A-Rama collaboration with John Dove and Molly White features their iconic leopard print in various colourways.

Having introduced their infamous leopard print in the early 70’s as a reaction to the possible threat of extinction of the leopard, these iconic fluorescent coloured leopard prints originally appeared on jeans and t-shirts at the time and dominated punk fashion around the world.

“In our collaborations we seek originality and a wonderful back story – this collection has both in spades! John Dove and Molly White have played a pivotal role in British fashion for decades – it is a privilege to work with them.” CEO and Founder Julie Deane

“PUNK-A RAMA has brought out the best in our classic Leopardskin prints. They have been refined and given a sharper 21st century edge that we believe has transformed the Cambridge satchel – already an amazing idea – into an object that combines the wild & sexy street-style of the 70’s with the cool conceptual distinctiveness of The Cambridge Satchel…Art as Product – Product as Art”. John Dove & Molly White

Having first sold their prints at the iconic Paradise Garage in the 70’s, John and Molly will be bringing them back this year with five exciting colours designed in collaboration with The Cambridge Satchel Company. The collection includes 11”, 13” and 14” satchels, the Designer Batchel and the Mini. Retail prices range from £135 to £175.

Our faves of course are the black on black, and the grey on white below.

The collaboration is available from select retailers worldwide, in The Cambridge Satchel Company stores and online at www.cambridgesatchel.com.

ARE WE PAYING THE PRICE FOR FASHION?

According to research 9 in 10 UK women experience pain or discomfort when wearing high heels and leave £190 worth of unworn shoes at the back of their wardrobes!!!

It’s a well-known fact that women have an irrational love of shoes, happily buying a new pair without a second thought for their bulging wardrobes at home.  Research released by the makers of footcare brand COMPEEDÂź, reveals that UK women own on average 25 pairs of shoes, but on average a quarter are never worn because of pain or discomfort such as blisters, corns and bunions.  In fact according to the survey, on average a British woman could have ÂŁ190 worth of shunned shoes in her wardrobe – that’s as much as ÂŁ3.3 billion* worth of shoes lying abandoned across the UK.

Despite the fact that 93% of British women experience pain when wearing high heels, it doesn’t seem to curb our spending – the survey revealed that we spend an average of £608 a year on their footwear.

From planned purchases to spontaneous splurges it’s clear that shoes top women’s list of priorities, especially during  the sales season with four in ten of us admitting we snap up ‘bargains’ in the spring and summer sales.

So why is it, that we’re happy to spend excessively on unwearable shoes, that gather dust in the back of the wardrobe?

Psychologist Emma Kenny, commenting on the study, says: “Women buy high heels because they make them feel confident and sexy.  Confidence is something we all aspire to.  It makes us feel happy, full of direction and in control of our lives; so it makes sense that we invest in things that aid this feeling.  The results show that women in the UK agree, and that’s why they see shoes as part and parcel of the important purchases they make on a regular basis.  With confidence comes possibilities which helps explain the amount of money women will spend on shoes over a lifetime.”

Alexandra Papa, spokesperson for the COMPEED¼ brand, says: “It is interesting to see from our research that such a high proportion of UK women are suffering needlessly for fashion, or abandoning large chunks of their shoe collection because of discomfort.  We have a variety of footcare products available in our range, which can help women stay one step ahead of blister pain and make their unwearable shoes, wearable.”

With over a fifth of us (21%) citing blisters as one of the primary causes of discomfort, the COMPEED¼ product range could have the solution. The COMPEED¼ Blister Plaster range offers instant pain and pressure relief.  Acting like a second skin, to support the skin’s natural moisture balance.  Investing in COMPEED¼ products can help us to revive our shoe collection so we can be unstoppable.

COMPEED¼ Blister Plasters (Medium) – RRP £4.99. Available in major retailers and pharmacies nationwide.
