GIVENCHY BY RICCARDO TISCI RESORT 2013

Riccardo Tisci’s silhouette for Givenchy’s Resort 2013 is absolutely delightful! It’s such an effortless yet polished look that works for both day and night. The precise cuts and sophisticated tailoring revisit Givenchy’s signature look, such as the boxy jacket, the men’s shirt and sarouel pants. Contour is graphically renewed with a tail coat idea reinterpreted through opened sleeves or paneled extensions of tops, T-shaped sleeves and rounded balloon volumes. Tisci blends the best of Givenchy’s architectural lines and clean cuts with a gypsy influence expressed through prints and volumes. The feeling is about lightness, about mixing and matching what is seemingly at odds or classic with a sense of ease.

Monochrome whites, blacks and reds are teamed with three paisley prints. The same color palette follows through the rich variety of accessories. From boxy shapes to small clutches, including the HDG House de Givenchy style, bags incorporate soft calf, quilted and vegetal leathers. Other versions present paisley-printed textured PVC, caged crystal embroideries or braided nappa. The sandals, boots and high heeled loafers leave me salivating in braided leather, the monochrome pairs are outstanding!

GIVENCHY SS12 AD CAMPAIGN

I am loving Givenchy’s new ad campaign for the SS12 collection! Being spring/summer Riccardo Tisci took it to the beach but kept it cool adding a slightly Gothic edge. The ad featuring Gisele BĂĽndchen, muse Mariacarla Boscono, Chris Moore and Simone Nobili, was given an eerie feel with darkening skies and “all black everything”.

The campaign shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, has the models posing in front of a black pick up truck with black surf boards and a black dog, dressed head to toe in black. The designer described the atmosphere as “the expression of a love story between a surfer and a mermaid.” The campaign will break in February issues of Vogue, W and other magazines.

Paris Couture SS11

Will we be seeing Samurai inspired dresses on the Oscar red carpet this year? Or will it be Ultraviolet liquid metallics? Ricardo Tisci extended Givenchy’s A/W 10 collection with Samurai helmets and intricate back detailing. Forever loving Elie Saab, always giving us timeless glamour. Christian Dior and Jean Paul Gaultier are always Freak Deluxe favourites, Dior brought exaggerated old Hollywood glamour, while Gaultier delivered faux-hawks, fingerwaves, shredded knits, studs and lots of black.
