New York Fashion Week SS15 day three is pretty much the one we’ve been waiting for. We saw major players such as Alexander Wang; Tibi; Mara Hoffman; Lacoste; and Prabal Gurung take the runway. With it being the third day, more trends are forming – such as patch pockets, retro floral prints, and summer suede – looks like one of the major trends may be 70s, again. Take a peek at some of our favourite pieces of the day, what we loved about them and what we didn’t love so much.
Lacoste: The theme was Yachting
LOVED: The monotone outfits
NOT SO MUCH: Not sure about the whole windbreaker belt combo, the jury’s out on that one; also the “yachting” shorts.
Prabal Gurung
LOVED: The racer back crop tops layered over strapless dresses; Binx Walton
NOT SO MUCH: The ruffles, on ruffles, on…ruffles!
Dion Lee
LOVED: The seatbelt like strap embellishments; the printed pieces; and again monotone looks.
NOT SO MUCH: The fine lace pieces.
Ostwald Helgason
LOVED: Crisp shirting; silk co-ords; drop waist dress
NOT SO MUCH: Could have done without the patch pockets and retro prints.
Jill Stuart
LOVED: Suede midi dress; this collection could potentially be worn all year round
NOT SO MUCH: Again, patch pockets and retro floral prints
Rebecca Taylor
LOVED: Such a pretty, yet cool collection. Loved the boho ruffled skirts; the knitted sleeveless dress over chiffon skirt; cobalt blue jumpsuit with cut-outs and the sheer button up shirt with embellished sleeves worn under a yellow crop top.
NOT SO MUCH: Left out some of the other more ruffled, floral appliqué looks that weren’t as cool.
Mara Hoffman
LOVED: Gorgeous prints and great use of colour; white linen button up paired with voluminous culottes; all of the leaf print pieces.
NOT SO MUCH: Nada
Alexander Wang
LOVED: As you can see, it was a little difficult to edit Mr. Wang’s collection down. With the rise of the trainer/sneaker he thought he’d put them on the runway, but not in the literal sense. The collection reinterpreted iconic styles such as the Nike FlyKnit and Adidas Stan Smith in the form of dresses and separates. I mean!
NOT SO MUCH: Nothing to see here!
Tibi
LOVED: Summer suedes; textured and embellished fabrics; oversized cropped shirts; that powder blue loose trench.
NOT SO MUCH: …
Christian Siriano
LOVED: Lots of polished white looks with sheer panels and/or embellishment; that gorg drop waist gown, with dipped hem, in a beautiful sea green jacquard fabric; embellished jacquard dresses with embellished sheer panels – beware sharp objects – dangerously sexy.
NOT SO MUCH: Clutching at straws here, some of the sandals were an ‘nuh uh’
Adam Lippes
LOVED: Is it the model? Is it the shoes? Is it the styling? Don’t care, we’re loving everything, including the tassel covered blazer!
NOT SO MUCH: See above
Parsons MFA: Will update with designers when we know more.
LOVED: We chose 3 designers out of the 100 looks that hit the runway from the Parsons design school. The stiff 3D looks from the first collection really caught our eye; the organza covered prints of the second had a really great feel to it, teamed with the metal collars; we loved the third collection of art deco embellished knitwear!
