I’ve decided to start a new concept on here and the ‘gram, introducing chain outfits .
Chain, chain, chain, chain letters outfits. If you don’t know where that comes from check this link to get the jist.
Chain Letters was one of my favourite shows when I was off school (sick or otherwise). Am I a nerd? So I love word play, and what?!
After I made a blunder saying “coin” instead of “corn” and then being pulled up on it, I had to draw for the Chain Letters excuse. “Change the ‘r’ to an ‘i’ to make COIN”. Luckily, he knew what I was talking about. Oh how we laughed!!
Anyway, that gave me an idea – why not incorporate one of my favourite shows, into my favourite thing. Word play x fashion = fashion play! [The Bhangra dance, is my victory dance of choice at this very moment! Join me!].
The majority of my outfits consist of 5 pieces: jacket; top; bottoms (read: jeans); footwear; bag.
This would be the equivalent of a 5 letter word in Chain Letters, and if you clicked the link or have watched the show, or even read this post then you might just understand the concept.
Instead of starting with a word and changing a letter to make a new word; I’ll start with one outfit, and change one piece to make a new outfit.
So I will select one item to exchange for something else i.e. exchange the bag for another layer of clothing; or the jacket for a hat; or heels for flats/sneakers; etc.
See my first 5 looks below
leather jacket | shirt dress | jeans | ankle boots | cross body bag
shirt dress – white tee
leather jacket | white tee | jeans | ankle boots | cross body bag
ankle boots – strappy heels
leather jacket | white tee | jeans | strappy heels | cross body bag
jeans – bodycon skirt
leather jacket | white tee | bodycon skirt | strappy heels | cross body bag
leather jacket – oversized bomber jacket
bomber jacket | white tee | bodycon skirt | strappy heels | cross body bag
I’m hoping that this concept will also help people to pack lighter when travelling. I know when I’ve been on holiday in the past, I haven’t even wore half of the things I packed. Think capsule wardrobe, rather than entire wardrobe “just in case”.
My Chain Outfits concept will be interactive, so if you don’t already, follow me on Instagram (@freakdeluxe) as that’s where I will be hosting the challenge.
Over to You!
Once I’ve posted the last of these 5 looks on insta, I’ll be throwing it out to you!
It’s up to you what I change next; the only rule is, it can’t be the same as what I swapped in the previous outfit. In this case, it can’t be the jacket. Votes will be left in the comments, and majority rules.
Those of you reading this blog post are getting a lil heads up on this chain outfits concept – I’ll post these looks throughout the week, the last look will go up on Friday 7th April and the vote will be open from then til Sunday midday. You choose what I take off, and I choose what to replace it with. This is how we intend to go on; if you follow the hashtag #fdchainoutfits in due time you’ll be able to see the evolution of all of the looks so far. Looks will go live on Fridays, voting will close midday Sunday.
I look forward to your input!
