I was quite surprised by Helmut Lang’s SS13 collection, this season design duo Nicole and Michael Colovos stepped out of their black/neutrals box (which btw I love) and threw in some acid brights. The couple added tomato red, oranges, and azure blues to their usual palette. Do you remember or have you ever heard of Spirograph? The little artsy fartsy thing made of cogs and wheels that allowed you to create wonderful swirly pieces of art with bright pens; well that’s what the added bold prints were giving me, a mix of that and a Kaleidoscope. The prints were born of a collaboration with tattoo artist Thomas Hooper. As much as I love the usual palette and silhouette of Helmut Lang, I have to say this laid back, brighter, more sporty approach is also fueling my fashionable fires.
