THE SCENT OF DEPARTURE

A new collection of fragrances has been developed by perfumer Gerald Ghislain along with creative partner Magali Senequier. The concept is a fragrance for each if your favourite destinations around the world, taking certain elements and bottling it up. Both music and scents are great reminders of a certain person, place and/or time so The Scent of Departure is a genius concept. The 1.7 oz skyscraper bottle was inspired by a luggage tag, and features the 3 IATA code letters of the city it represents; LDN for London, CDG for Paris (Charles de Gaule), NYC for New York City, HKG for Hong Kong, and so on and so forth.

We managed to speak to Gerald Ghislain, who mentioned there would be additional fragrances added to the collection “Las Vegas is all about the money and the glam so I based this fragrance on a cocktail, and Iceland white smoke for the volcano and it’s incredibly flat over there with no greenery.”

Our personal faves were Vienna (fresh mint cut grass, water flowers with pastries, vanilla, licorice, chocolate, and coffee); Bali (manderin and lemon notes with white florals, amber wood, and final touches of creamy vanilla); and Abu Dhabi (a mix of antiquity and modernity, notes of bergamot, jasmine, and amber).

The Scent of Departure is available from Harvey Nichols and TheScentofDeparture.com now, £35 50ml EDT.

DIOR ADDICT MINI FILM FT DAPHNE GROENEVELD

Super model Daphne Groeneveld stars in Dior’s latest mini film for the fragrance Dior Addict. The feature is reminiscent of films from the early 60s, you know those Technicolour films with the hand cut fonts and the cute girl that’s innocently sexy yet extremely flirty? The film was shot by Jonas Akerlund on a beach, with Daphne soaking up in the sun in a hot black vintagesque bikini. Later on we see her strutting through Mediterranean streets in a black tee and capri pants a la Audrey Hepburn, and sipping on a Cranberry juice with a cat on her head.

NEW DISCOVERY: ANTICA FARMACISTA

Those of you that read Freak Deluxe regularly will know that I’m absolutely obsessed with fragrance, so you can imagine my delight when I came across Antica Farmacista in the Star Lounge at Mercedes Benz Fashion week in New York.

Antica Farmacista create signature scents for both the home and body, each fragrance is formulated with essential oils and natural ingredients; making them 100% natural!  Duo Shelly and Susannah know how to strike a chord within you when it comes to fragrance, all it took was one spray of Green Fig in the air and I was hooked! Think of the cliché cartoon pie on the window sil with the visible scent wafting over and hooking whoever it catches; that was me, I could not contain myself it literally made me do a little dance! The wonderful thing about this brand is that the scents seem so familiar, they literally take you somewhere on first whiff; its a different place for everyone.

They have something for everyone and it’s all perfectly mapped out, whether its a treat for you or a gift for a loved one they have it covered for The Romantic, The Classic, The Naturalist*, The Modernist, The Fashionista*, and The Man*. Green Fig, my new signature scent crosses over three of those categories. I of course loved more than one of the amazing scents, other favourites are No11; Peonia, Gardenia, & Rosa; and Orange Blossom, Lilac, & Jasmine.

It is now my mission to bring this brand to the UK and have them perfectly placed in iconic department store Liberty. Then I want them to have a scent smelling party/event where we all smell each scent and discuss where it takes us and what it reminds us of, and then we all choose our signature Antica Farmacista fragrance.

Antica Farmacista is currently available in the following places: Nordstrom; Neiman Marcus; Bergdorf Goodman; Isetan; Henri Bendel; Nicholson-Hardie; Lane Crawford. For more information go to anticafarmacista.com

KRISTEN STEWART TO BE FACE OF NEW BALENCIAGA FRAGRANCE

The fashionably and socially awkward Kristen Stewart is set to be the face of the new Balenciaga fragrance for women. The actress follows Charlotte Gainsbourg who has represented Balenciaga Paris, the first fragrance, since 2010.  Creative Director of Balenciaga, Nicolas Ghesquière says ”Kristen Stewart embodies the modernity of the new Balenciaga fragrance with her unique sensibility and intelligence. From her early appearance in ‘Panic Room’ to her independent choice of ‘Welcome to the Rileys,’ I’ve always sensed her progressive character. In 2006, I invited her to appear in a project shot by Bruce Weber. Since then, I’ve always wished to collaborate with her further, knowing that she shares the radical spirit of Balenciaga.

“I love Balenciaga fashion because it is incredibly bold and forceful, yet feminine and sexy. I found there was a real creative freedom about this project. I feel blessed and really proud of being the face of this new fragrance.” Kristen Stewart

Personally I don’t see it, I’m looking forward to seeing the campaign shots and I sincerely hope she surprises me. What do you think???
