During her concert in Glasgow Beyonce chose to open and close The Mrs. Carter World Tour in custom-made Atelier Versace. The international superstar begins the show looking absolutely flawless in a white and silver halter top mini-dress, completely beaded using a combination of leather straps and sculpted metal beads and white sequins. For her closing look, she is absolute perfection in a black leather racerback top and matching black mini skirt, with a transparent floor-length overlay composed of a Swarovski crystal grid with a full-length zipper down the back.
AW14 sees the debut of Christopher Kane’s first, fully realised, leather goods collection. Expanding from the signature ‘Pencil Case Clutch’ that distinctly marks each successive Christopher Kane clothing collection, the leather goods line now encompasses a multiplicity of bag styles and functions from said clutches to oversized totes. There are eight new styles in all, finished in a choice of premium materials: luxurious calfskins, satined alligator and silky smooth python. Each bag features the distinct ‘Safety Buckle’ fastening.
These two, the animal textures, are of course our faves!
“It is all about the starting point, our heritage,” says Christopher Kane. “For our first bag line I thought it should really reflect where the Christopher Kane collections began: with my Spring-Summer 2007 show. The ‘Safety Buckle’ is a motif from that collection and is something I like to return to, as are the oversized, plastic zips. Neon colour is another of our signatures from early on that reoccurs. Then there is the angular influence of the cutting from Spring-Summer 2012… Each of these elements has marked an important moment in time for me and for our collections. And the start of the Christopher Kane leather goods line is another one of those important moments to mark.”
At the same time this season’s leather goods also reflect much of the Autumn-Winter 2014-15 ready-to-wear collection’s preoccupations. A palette of black, pink, grey and chocolate brown predominates; the themes of safety, subversion and sweetness are key – with just that hint of something darker lurking underneath.
Zeynep Tosun AW14 saw influences from the 1970’s silhouette and modern day street-style spirit. The collection entitled ‘Oxidised’ presents the androgynous sport luxe approach with tailoring twists echoing that of the late Seventies. An oxidised inspired colour palette runs throughout, including shades of cream, deep browns, cinnamons and misty blue, grey hues.
Our faves from the collection include puffa style down jackets, major leather pieces, turtleneck sweatshirts, oversized coats, and those wool and leather pom pom hats.

Cara worked closely with the Mulberry design team to create a collection of bags. Visited the archives, choosing leathers, sketching ideas, talking shop, discussing the practical needs of the Mulberry customer, and the trend for understated elegance. Cara obsessed over every detail of her collection (as would I) and determined each element of the design, from the right straps and buckles to the combination of Mulberry’s signature hardware and her own finishing touches.
The Mulberry Cara Delevingne Bag is a three-in-one style, uniting Mulberry’s English attitude to functional beauty and Cara’s inimitable personality – a bag that can take you anywhere. The Mulberry Cara Delevingne Collection features three sizes in three different finishes; classic Natural Leather, Quilted Nappa Leather and innovative Camouflage Haircalf with an extra limited edition version inspired by Cara’s lion tattoo.
All the bags created for the Mulberry Cara Delevingne Collection will be made in England at Mulberry’s Somerset ateliers; The Rookery in Chilcompton and The Willows in Bridgwater, where a team of 700 local craftsmen and craftswomen will bring the collection to life. Made in England is also part of Cara: she has it tattooed on the bottom of her foot. In tribute, the Mulberry Cara Delevingne Collection has it stamped on the bottom of each bag.
Making the beautiful practical and making the practical beautiful is the key to Mulberry’s very British take on style and design.
When asked who would like the Mulberry Cara Delevingne Bag Cara said: “My Granny will like this bag. She’s one hundred and two years old. My five year old cousin will probably like this bag. He’s a boy.”
