Bora Aksu AW14 took inspiration from his mother Birsen’s photos and letters, sent from boarding school as a thirteen year old girl. The collection begins with definite references to the uniformed appearance of his mother and her friends, white collar uniforms and braided hair begin the first chapter. The juxtaposing ideas of uniformed society and individual will is what Bora Aksu has played upon through colour, form, and texture.

Black, midnight blues, and stark whites, pale pinks and silvers mixed with rich reds and mustards punch through childhood passion and mentality. Pencil skirts, high collars, and bodice tops refer to conformity; while shorter lengths and masculine jackets play up the rebelliousness. Confidence and surety in new found independence are shown in floor sweeping gowns.

The contrasts are also written into the fabrics; formal wools and corduroys are mixed with silks and beaded organza. Leather has been used to play an important bridge between the materials and story. Combining formality and structure with a touch of rebellion, the pieces were crafted with the finest of skins from the distinguished Turkish Leather Brands.

DISCOVER DENIM AT NEW LOOK

This week we were invited to New Look’s HQ to #discoverdenim, and discover denim we did! We walked into a room full of denim pieces, with denim coloured popcorn, candy floss, drinks, and salt (for the fish & chips). The new collections hosts a selection of jeans in 10 different cuts [Super Skinny/Skinny/Jegging/High Waist/High Rise/Boyfriend/Bootcut/Mom/Straight/Relaxed Slim], in several different washes; denim jackets; the softest denim camisole (personal fave); denim shorts; shirts, track pants (another fave); jumpsuits (ditto); a denim tee dress (also loved); and denim nails by Claire K!

New Look have also developed a premium denim range called Platinum, which as luxe as it sounds will still be cheaper than most high street jeans! The special pieces aren’t dropping til May; can’t wait!!!

Dsquared2 Advertising Campaign Women’s Spring Summer 2014

An island goddess ruling her tropical paradise. A glamorous beach belle fixating all in her path with a single look. The new advertising campaign for Dsquared2 shot by Mert & Marcus on location in Los Angeles captures the essence of the spring summer 2014 women’s collection. Against a lush natural waterfall setting, Dsquared2’s vixen – portrayed by model Luma Grothe — is replete with accouterments essential to her style: brightly hued bags, tropical-themed jumbo jewelry and cat’s eye sunglasses.

The new Dr. Martens campaign has dropped, leading you to ask yourself the question ‘What do you stand for?”. The ethos behind the campaign is celebrating the rebellious characters and tribes that have adopted and loved the brand!

The campaign features 19 characters – all of which are real people that were handpicked by Dr. Martens as they all represent different elements of the brands offering.

Dr. Martens have just launched a FaceBook app whereby brand fans can design their own boot using the images from their FB and Instagram accounts! Get to it!
